C the Signs, in partnership with Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, has launched a pioneering UK-first pathway that accelerates early diagnosis of endometrial (womb) cancer. Women over 50 complete an AI-powered assessment; if risk is detected, they are triaged instantly and booked for an ultrasound scan—cutting weeks from the diagnostic journey for post-menopausal women at higher risk.

He further explained, "This will also free up GP colleagues so they can see patients with other conditions. More than nine out of every ten women referred to our service will not have cancer. We hope this service will help to reassure the majority of people more quickly and identify those who need further treatment sooner."
Instead of waiting for a GP appointment, post-menopausal women with possible symptoms can now refer themselves directly for testing. By removing the first hurdle in the traditional pathway, this service ensures faster access to diagnostics when every day counts.
Endometrial cancer is one of the most common cancers among UK women, with 9,700 new cases each year. Five-year survival is about 90% when caught early, but plummets to 15% in late stages. Streamlined access to ultrasound scans means quicker diagnosis, quicker treatment, and better outcomes.
Historically, women’s health has faced delays and under-investment. Helen Hyndman MBE of the Eve Appeal applauds the new pathway: “This self-referral service empowers patients by raising awareness of womb-cancer symptoms and offering quicker, closer-to-home appointments—boosting the chances of early diagnosis.”
Dr Jude Gordon, Clinical Director at C the Signs, adds: “By letting women take control of their symptoms, we’re giving them faster access to specialist care and improving survival odds.”
This breakthrough marks the start of wider self-referral roll-outs: colorectal and lung-cancer pathways will launch later this year, further transforming how patients access life-saving diagnostics across the NHS.

"People will be able to get a diagnosis much earlier than before. We are seeing a year-on-year increase in referrals to our gynaecology cancer services, particularly for post-menopausal bleeding. By allowing patients to access our service directly via self-referral, we can avoid unnecessary delays and get them an appointment much more quickly."
